Lysine2 is an amino acid that your body is not able to produce.
It’s important for normal growth and muscle turnover and used to form carnitine, a substance found in most cells inside your body. Lysine helps transport fats across your cells to be burned for energy.
L-lysine is a form of lysine your body can utilize. It’s naturally found in food and is the type used in supplements.
4 Benefits of taking Lysine:
Some studies show that lysine can reduce the duration and frequency of cold sores.
My naturopath and acupuncturist, advised me to take 1,000mg, twice a day. *They both, also told me not to take this supplement every day. If you are prone to herpetic lesions it may be best to take this supplement (1,000 mg twice a day) two weeks on and then two weeks off. *Taking Lysine intermittently will help so your body not become immune to this supplement.
- May reduce anxiety by blocking stress response receptors.
Lysine may play a role in reducing anxiety3.
A one-week study in 50 healthy people noticed that supplementing with 2.64 grams of lysine and arginine lowered stress-induced anxiety and reduced levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
- May improve calcium absorption.
A study in 30 women, 15 healthy and 15 with osteoporosis, found that supplementing with calcium and lysine reduced the loss of calcium in the urine4.
The women given 3 grams of calcium alone had a progressive increase in calcium in their urine. However, the women who also received 400 mg of lysine lost less calcium through their urine
Lysine appears to protect your bones.
- Can promote wound healing by creating collagen.
P.S. A few things that won’t cost you a dime:
Fist of all, get at least seven hours of sleep. Why seven?
Because our bodies function best on 7 rounds of REM sleep and that usually (It should) occurs about every hour while you sleep.
Second, and super important, is regular exercise.
You don’t need to get one hour of exercise every day but look at the benefits of 3 days a week of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).
HITT exercise means raising your heart rate for as little as ten-minutes, three, and especially, five days a week.
HIIT exercise will increase your oxygen levels. Yes, that means oxygen will stave off invading microorganisms such as the flu virus from reproducing and developing within the respiratory system. that will cause cold and flu!
Regular exercise can prevent a cold and/or the flu by triggering the antigen-antibody response of your immune system.
HIIT exercise will increase your metabolism. Think calorie burn for those of you trying to lose a few pounds.
Anther benefit to HIIT exercise is that it will improve your glucose (sugar in your blood) levels. Sugar creates inflammation and inflammation causes illness.
Here's a thought:
Think 10 minutes, 5 times each week.
That's 50 minutes.
Can you find 50 minutes of time each week to help live a longer, healthier life?
Just my two-cents.
You decide what’s best for you.
Cheers to a Happy and Healthy Fall & Winter!
